Kaya FC-Iloilo emerged victorious against Stallion Laguna FC, with a score of 2-1, securing a spot in the Copa Paulino Alcantara final for the fifth consecutive time. The match took place at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, where the reigning Philippines Football League titleholders demonstrated their prowess on the field. They are set to compete in the championship round, the date of which will be announced soon.
In the 18th minute of the game, Ricky Sendras made a successful goal, giving Kaya FC an early lead. However, Stallion Laguna FC quickly retaliated with a goal in the 28th minute. The turning point came when Abraham Pacheco conceded an own goal, resulting in a 2-1 lead for Kaya FC.
Following the game, Kaya FC’s head coach, Colum Curtis, commended the team for their performance on the field. This victory comes after the team faced a 3-0 defeat from Yokohama F. Marinos in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League last week. Curtis expressed his satisfaction with the players’ resilience and adaptability as they transitioned from one competition to another.
Curtis, who is coaching in his first Copa final in the Philippines, emphasized the team’s resolve to secure a win in the upcoming championship match. He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, whether facing Cebu or Davao in the final. According to Curtis, reaching the final is only part of the journey, and the ultimate goal is to claim the championship trophy.
With their eyes on the prize, Kaya FC-Iloilo aims to become the second team to achieve both the PFL and Copa titles in the same year, following Ceres Negros FC’s accomplishment in 2019. This ambitious pursuit reflects the team’s determination and commitment to excellence in Philippine football.
