The Inaugural Season of the Philippines Football League: PFF to Issue Club Licenses to 8 Teams

In the preparation for the debut of the Philippines Football League (PFL), the Philippine Football Federation has initiated the issuance of licenses to eight clubs that have applied for participation in the league’s inaugural season.

These clubs have been meticulously evaluated to ensure their compliance with the criteria established by the PFF Club Licensing Regulations. This action represents a significant stride towards the commercialization of the PFL, including its financial framework, with the invaluable support of Red Card Global, a reputable international sports marketing agency headquartered in Singapore. The agency will act as the exclusive commercial agent for the PFL over the next six years, with the objective of enhancing the league’s commercial viability both domestically and internationally.

Expressing gratitude, PFF President Mariano V. Araneta underscored the significance of the National League in the ongoing development of Philippine football. He extended appreciation to all stakeholders, such as sponsors, private club investors, stadium owners, players, and football enthusiasts, for their steadfast backing in the establishment of a professional football league in the country.

Furthermore, the Executive Chairman of Red Card Global, R. Sasikumar, commended his pride in contributing to the PFF’s initiatives, expressing optimism that this model would propel Philippines football to new heights, given the substantial commercial prospects presented by the large domestic and international population.

Additionally, negotiations are being finalized with People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTV) as the Free-To-Air partner for the inaugural season of the league. Discussions for various other broadcast agreements are also ongoing, with intentions to formalize these partnerships before the commencement of the season.

The eight clubs that have been granted licenses, along with their respective home stadia, are as follows:
– Ceres Negros FC (Panaad Park Football Stadium, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental)
– Davao Aguilas FC (Davao del Norte Sports & Tourism Stadium, Tagum City)
– Global Cebu FC (University of San Carlos Football Stadium, Cebu City)
– Ilocos United FC (President Elpidio Quirino Stadium-Vigan, Ilocos Sur)
– JPV Marikina FC (Marikina Sports Complex, Marikina City)
– Kaya FC-Makati (UMAK Football Stadium, Makati City)
– Stallion Laguna FC (Binan Football Stadium, Binan City, Laguna)
– Loyola Meralco Sparks FC (nominating Rizal Memorial Stadium, Manila)

Each licensed club is required to execute a franchise agreement with the PFF in order to partake in the PFL.

The official launch of the PFL is slated for April 20, 2017, with the first match scheduled to commence on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Participating clubs will compete in a Home-and-Away format, with the top four clubs proceeding to a Finals Series after two rounds. Matches are set to take place every Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Further details concerning fixtures and live match broadcast schedules will be revealed during the official launch.

These developments lay the groundwork for an exhilarating new era in Philippine football as the PFL prepares for its much-anticipated debut later this month.
