Davao Aguilas-University of Makati is making preparations for the finals as they gear up to go against Kaya FC-Iloilo in the 2023 Copa Paulino Alcantara Philippines Football League. Head coach Aber Ruzgal has been carefully strategizing and analyzing their potential opponent long before the semifinals even took place.
Ruzgal has expressed his anticipation for the final match against Kaya, stating, “When we were playing in the semifinals, my head was already thinking how to play against Kaya. I’m not being arrogant but I was able to study against Cebu (during the semifinals) but when it comes to the breaks of the game, I know we prepared on how they played.” His early focus on Kaya demonstrates the level of dedication and preparation the team has put into this upcoming game.
Even before securing their spot in the final, Ruzgal had his sights set on facing the reigning champion. The semifinals concluded with a 2-1 aggregate score in favor of Davao, ultimately solidifying their position in the upcoming final match.
Reflecting on their previous encounter with Kaya in the 2018 Cup final, where Kaya emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, Ruzgal acknowledges the changes within their team since then. With new players like Yannick Tuazon and Paolo Bugas leading the team, Ruzgal remains confident in their ability to claim victory and seek redemption for their previous loss.
Furthermore, Davao Aguilas will be utilizing their time wisely leading up to the final, taking into account that Kaya will be participating in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League prior to the championship match. Ruzgal acknowledges the competitive nature of the finals, stating that “The finals will be anybody’s game so let’s hope for the best for the team.”
As the final date is yet to be determined, the Davao Aguilas-University of Makati team remains focused and committed to their goal of securing the coveted Copa Paulino Alcantara. The team’s diligence and strategic mindset are evident as they prepare to face their formidable opponent, Kaya FC-Iloilo, in the highly anticipated final match.
