The U17 women’s football team of GK Sipag FC has recently unveiled their new kit design for the upcoming season, featuring the iconic LALIGA logo on the front of the jersey. This historic collaboration signifies a significant milestone in the Asian football landscape and is part of an inspiring solidarity initiative between the Spanish football competition and the NGO Gawad Kalinga for the prestigious ‘Ang Liga’, the largest school football league in the Philippines.
In a heartwarming demonstration of support and acknowledgment, Gawad Kalinga was honored at the Heroes Off The Pitch gala, organized by LALIGA, where they were presented with the Best Community Project for Football award. This remarkable achievement underscored the pivotal role of football and sports in driving positive social change within communities.
As part of this recognition, LALIGA has extended their support by incorporating their logo onto the GK Sipag FC U17 women’s team kits, demonstrating their dedication to facilitating positive impact through football. Furthermore, GK Sipag FC will be making their debut in the ‘Ang Liga’ school league this year, marking a significant transition from a community-based futsal team to competing in 11-a-side football against established clubs in the country.
The new kits feature a meticulously designed aesthetic, with each detail carrying significant meaning. The vibrant yellow color symbolizes hope and optimism, while the “hidden” bees on the jersey represent Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, embodying the spirit of the club, with the underlying message of resilience and unity within the communities. The presence of three lines of banig further emphasizes the values of collaboration and togetherness, serving as a testament to the club’s overarching mission.
Additionally, the inclusion of the iconic LALIGA logo, with the unmistakable double “Ls”, adds a touch of prestige and international recognition to the kits. This collaborative effort aims to provide GK Sipag FC with an unrivaled opportunity to expand their horizons and compete on a larger stage with unwavering support from LALIGA.
Marlyn “Bing” Importante, the manager of Gawad Kalinga, expressed her optimism and gratitude towards the partnership, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to nurturing the development of their players. She conveyed her excitement for the upcoming challenges, stating that every experience, win or loss, serves as a valuable learning opportunity, echoing the sentiment of “SIPAG lang” (hard work will pay off one day).
Meanwhile, Javier López-Sanz Chulvi, the LALIGA delegate in the Philippines, conveyed his pride and inspiration towards the collaboration, underscoring LALIGA’s unwavering commitment to football development across the globe. He stressed the importance of overcoming the challenges both on and off the field, demonstrating LALIGA’s enduring support for Gawad Kalinga and GK Sipag FC.
Notably, this partnership is not the first instance of collaboration between Gawad Kalinga and LALIGA for social welfare initiatives. The organizations have previously engaged in the “Climate Change Awareness Through Soccer” project, harnessing the power of football to drive environmental consciousness and address critical social issues such as gender equality. This project has successfully engaged over 100 young individuals from various communities across the Philippines, further reinforcing the profound impact of football beyond the realm of sports.
The remarkable collaboration between La Liga and GK Sipag FC U17 women’s team stands as a testament to the transformative power of football in driving social change and fostering community development. It embodies the spirit of resilience, unity, and hope, and sets an inspiring example for the global football community.
