Exciting Developments in Philippine Football as PFL Prepares for Season 2020

The highly anticipated return of the Philippines Football League (PFL) is finally on the horizon, eliciting excitement among football enthusiasts across the country. Following the recent approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and a favorable recommendation from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), PFL clubs are preparing to resume their training sessions in anticipation of the upcoming season.

Mariano Araneta, Jr., President of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), has expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s return and revealed that Qatar Airways, the official sponsor, has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the upcoming season. The airline has already fulfilled 50% of its sponsorship for the year, signifying a solid partnership that bodes well for the growth of football in the Philippines.

In a strategic move to enhance the league’s reputation, PFF’s General Secretary, Atty. Edwin Gastanes, has announced that the PFL will now be formally known as “The Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways”. This rebranding effort aims to strengthen the league’s identity and solidify its partnership with Qatar Airways.

As part of PFF’s operational protocols for the PFL, rigorous RT-PCR/swab tests were conducted at the PFF House of Football in Pasig City to ensure the safety and well-being of PFF staff and PFL clubs. These measures are crucial in providing a secure environment as clubs prepare to reignite their training activities.

Recognizing the significance of proper training facilities, PFF has designated the National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite as the primary venue for club training. However, PFF remains open to considering alternative training venues, provided that they comply with the prescribed protocols.

With no definite start date for the league yet, the PFL continues to refine its tournament regulations for the upcoming season. PFL Commissioner Coco Torre has disclosed that the competition will adopt a single round-robin format to accommodate the 2020 schedule, emphasizing the league’s commitment to delivering an exciting and competitive season for football enthusiasts.

Additionally, Torre has emphasized the importance of expanding the league’s reach and raising its profile within the sporting community. He highlighted the need for a strategic plan to drive the league forward, attract more clubs for league stability, and entice additional sponsors to invest in the sport.

The PFL’s return to the field signifies a promising period for Philippine football, signifying a strong resurgence after months of hiatus. As preparations continue and anticipation builds, the return of competitive football in the Philippines is undoubtedly a cause for celebration. With unwavering support from sponsors, dedicated efforts from league officials, and the unyielding enthusiasm of football fans, the forthcoming PFL season promises to be an exhilarating chapter in the country’s football landscape.
