Philippines Player Ugelvik Recovering After Injury During Match Against Indonesia

23-year-old Filipino football player Ugelvik sustained an injury during a match against Indonesia after colliding with Indonesian goalkeeper Ernando Ari, causing him to lose consciousness. Following the incident, medical personnel provided initial medical attention to Ugelvik, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Erick Thohir, President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), confirmed that Ugelvik is conscious and is currently awaiting the results of an MRI scan. The Philippines Football Federation (PFF) also shared a photo of Ugelvik giving a thumbs-up while receiving care at the hospital.

Reports indicate that Ugelvik’s condition is currently stable, and he will continue to be monitored at the hospital. Coach Tom Saintfiet stated that the young defender suffered a minor concussion as a result of the collision. It is noted that the Philippines had already been eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers prior to the match and ultimately lost to Indonesia with a score of 0-2.

Despite the defeat, Indonesia’s victory secured their second place standing behind Iraq and propelled them to the third qualifying round for the first time. In a separate match, Vietnam suffered a 1-3 loss to Iraq.
