Kaya-Iloilo Faces Tough Defeat Against Incheon United in South Korea

Kaya-Iloilo, the current champion of the Philippines Football League, faced a formidable opponent in South Korea’s Incheon United during the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League. The match resulted in a 4-0 loss for Kaya-Iloilo, marking their second defeat in the tournament. The game took place at the Sungui Arena Park on Tuesday evening.

This loss has placed Kaya-Iloilo at the bottom of Group G, while Incheon United has secured the top position with six points, having won two consecutive matches in the league. The match began unfavorably for Kaya, with Stefan Mugosa managing to score two goals within the first 20 minutes. Mugosa’s goals, a header at the 6th minute and a penalty at the 19th, set the tone for the rest of the match.

The situation further deteriorated for Kaya as Rodrigues scored a tap-in goal in the 36th minute just before halftime. The home side then completed the rout with Paul-Jose M’Poku’s free kick in the 74th minute.

The outcome of the match was disheartening for Kaya-Iloilo, but both teams will have the opportunity to redeem themselves on October 25. Kaya is scheduled to face Yokohama F. Marinos in an away game, with hopes of securing their first win in the tournament. Meanwhile, Incheon United will strive for their third consecutive win as they host Shandong Taishan.

The defeat suffered by Kaya-Iloilo serves as a stark reminder of the challenges associated with international football competition. While the path ahead may be arduous, the team has displayed resilience in the past and will be aiming to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming matches.
