The recent event that attracted significant attention was the active involvement of Vietnam in the 27th Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum held in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. This important gathering saw the participation of a delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) from June 27 to July 2, led by the esteemed member of the CPV Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Kan province, Hoang Duy Chinh.
The forum served as a platform for over 1,000 delegates from more than 400 political parties, organizations, and social movements in the Latin American region. It was a unique opportunity for fruitful discussions and workshops aimed at strengthening solidarity, promoting regional integration, and exchanging opinions among various political parties and organizations in light of the current global challenges.
During the forum, Chinh took the opportunity to highlight Vietnam’s significant achievements in socio-economic development and foreign affairs, as well as the upcoming 14th National Party Congress. He emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to cultivating and enhancing cooperative relations with political parties, socio-political organizations, and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, signifying the country’s proactive stance in fostering international partnerships.
Additionally, the CPV delegation engaged in bilateral meetings with several political parties and organizations on the sidelines of the forum, including the secretaries-general of the Sao Paulo Forum and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA), among others. These meetings paved the way for discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding relations with regional political parties, laying the groundwork for future collaborative endeavors.
In line with their visit, the CPV delegation conducted working visits to Honduras and Costa Rica, where they had the honor of meeting with high-ranking leaders and officials. In Honduras, they paid a courtesy call on President Xiomara Castro and engaged in productive discussions with the general coordinator of the ruling LIBRE party, Manuel Zelaya, as well as the Deputy Foreign Minister of Honduras. The delegation also held talks with leaders of the Broad Front (FA) in Costa Rica and met with representatives from the ruling Social Democratic Progress Party (PPSD), solidifying the importance of their relations with Vietnam and expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various areas.
The engagements with the governments and political parties of Honduras and Costa Rica underscored the significance attached to the relations with the CPV and Vietnam. The parties mutually agreed to elevate their partnership and cooperation, particularly in the domains of trade, investment, and tourism, reflecting a promising trajectory for future collaboration.
Vietnam’s active participation in the 27th Meeting of Sao Paulo Forum in Honduras, alongside the successful working visits to Honduras and Costa Rica, not only exemplifies the country’s commitment to strengthening international relations but also signifies a significant step towards fostering meaningful partnerships and cooperation on a global scale.
