Selangor FC has officially announced that there is a possibility of Faisal Halim making his return to the pitch by August, following a devastating acid attack. The attack resulted in severe burns to his neck, shoulder, hands, and chest, and took place at a shopping center near Kuala Lumpur on May 5. Shahril Baharim, the chairman of the technical committee at Selangor FC, has provided an update on Faisal’s recovery, noting that he is progressing well.
Shahril has stated that, based on information from his doctors, there is a strong possibility that Faisal could make a comeback within three to six months. While only 70% of the wounded area has been covered with skin grafting, Faisal’s progress has been described as remarkable. He recently underwent a successful three-hour skin allograft surgery, with another minor surgery scheduled for Thursday. Pending the results, Faisal may be discharged in the coming days.
Faisal Halim, also known as “Mickey,” is a prominent 26-year-old footballer who gained recognition for scoring the best goal of the 2023 Asian Cup in a match against South Korea. His potential return to the field offers hope for fans and supporters as he continues his recovery journey.
The football community in Malaysia has been rocked by a series of criminal incidents targeting players. The domestic season faced a setback when Selangor FC withdrew from the league’s opening match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) due to safety concerns. In addition to Faisal’s case, two other players, Akhyar Rashid and former Malaysia skipper Safiq Rahim, have also been victims of threatening incidents.
These events have deeply impacted the nation, leaving authorities and the football community in shock and disbelief. While police are actively investigating the incidents, a motive for the attacks is yet to be determined.
Faisal’s potential return to the field serves as an inspiring testament to his resilience and determination to overcome adversity. His recovery is a symbol of hope, not only for fans of the sport but for all those who have been affected by the recent tragedies in Malaysian football.
