The government has also focused on enhancing public amenities and infrastructure, as illustrated by the development of new Housing Board towns and improvements to public transportation, healthcare, and social safety net structures.
PM Lee stressed the imperative of nurturing social cohesion, emphasizing the significance of ongoing efforts to strengthen a shared Singaporean identity, while remaining cognizant of the diverse ethnic roots and religious affiliations that enrich the nation’s cultural fabric.
Looking ahead, PM Lee assured the people of Singapore that the leadership is already working towards a strong start for the next chapter of the nation’s evolution. Ongoing plans include the development of new infrastructure, such as a megaport in Tuas, Terminal 5 at Changi Airport, and projects aimed at combatting rising sea levels.
In his parting address, PM Lee called for continued political stability and trust, asserting that Singapore’s exceptionalism and economic and social gains are contingent on maintaining an ethos of excellence and political stability.
He concluded by urging Singaporeans to appreciate the advantages accrued by the nation and to hold steadfast to the dedicated stewardship and safeguarding of its future. Emphasizing the importance of receiving the baton of national leadership from each preceding generation and leading the nation onwards and upwards, PM Lee has set the stage for a triumphant and purposeful transition of leadership in his final words as Prime Minister.
