Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, delivered a compelling address at an international forum in Singapore, expressing Indonesia’s preparedness to offer assistance to Gaza. He conveyed Indonesia’s willingness to deploy peacekeeping troops to the Palestinian territory upon the United Nations’ request.
Amidst the Special Session of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 Forum, Prabowo underscored the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, particularly in the wake of the tragic events in Rafah. These events resulted in the loss of numerous innocent lives, including children, women, and unarmed civilians. He called for a thorough investigation into the incident and pledged Indonesia’s support in providing aid to Gaza.
Furthermore, Prabowo announced Indonesia’s readiness to dispatch medical personnel and operate field hospitals in Gaza with the consent of all relevant parties. Additionally, Indonesia offered to evacuate and provide medical treatment to injured Palestinians in Indonesian hospitals, with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 patients in the near future.
In addition to immediate assistance, Indonesia is committed to supporting a comprehensive and enduring ceasefire to facilitate a lasting solution for peace between Israel and Palestine. Prabowo emphasized the significance of a two-state solution as the linchpin to achieving lasting peace and security in the region, echoing the sentiments of numerous countries worldwide.
Beyond the focal point of Gaza, Prabowo accentuated global security concerns, underscoring the necessity of collaboration to achieve prosperity and harmony. Indonesia remains steadfastly committed to promoting inclusive dialogue, concrete cooperation, and upholding international law and the sovereignty of all states as prescribed by the United Nations Charter.
During his address, Prabowo also emphasized the importance of diplomatic dialogue and national solidarity in resolving conflicts, citing examples such as Ukraine and Palestine. He stressed the necessity of balancing nationalism with humanity and tempering patriotism with wisdom and respect for all global citizens, calling for collective efforts toward the common good.
The unwavering commitment of Indonesia, as articulated by Minister Prabowo, demonstrates the nation’s dedication to international peacekeeping efforts and its role as a responsible global citizen.
